The Dream Lobby

Last night your brain built an entire world — people, weather, buildings, a plot with stakes — out of nothing, using no input from your senses, and you believed every second of it. Then you woke up and called it "just a dream," as though that were the unimpressive part.

First, a reality check

Lucid dreamers train themselves to test reality during the day, so the habit follows them into sleep. Two of the classics, right now. Read the sign below, then look away from your screen for a beat — properly away, at the room — then look back.

NO EXIT FROM THE PRESENT MOMENT

🖐️

Read the sign. Look away at the room. Look back and read it again.

Both of these are real tests. Both fail in dreams. Only one of them is fair.
